Why Utah Jazz Make The Move
The Utah Jazz won’t look to move Donovan Mitchell at all if he doesn’t demand a trade. If he does, this is about as strong of a return as they’re likely to receive.
As we’ve emphasized, Desmond Bane is the best asset the Jazz are returning here. Over 2021-22, he averaged 18.2 points while shooting 43.6% from long-range. He’s emerged as a strong perimeter defender in addition to that offensive output.
If anything, Bane could be a sticking point in negotiations between these two squads. The Grizzlies may be unwilling to give him up, and the Jazz may not trade Mitchell unless they’re receiving him. Still, he’s not the only valuable piece the Jazz receive here.
He is the reason they’re only receiving a single first-round pick for Mitchell. That shouldn’t stop them. They’re getting a 23-year-old fringe All-Star in Bane, and an intriguing young player in Ziare Williams as well.

They won’t want to move Mitchell. Small market teams are rarely enthusiastic about trading away their star players. If they’re forced to, this is about the best trade they could realistically make for his services.
