It was a roller-coaster season for the Nets, beginning with the COVID-19 mandates in New York. This forced Kyrie Irving to sit out home games. Brooklyn decided to have Irving come back late in the season on the road before the state lifted the mandates. This did not save the Nets come postseason time, as they were swept out of the first round by the Boston Celtics.
A team with Irving and Kevin Durant is supposed to be competing for championships. Brooklyn made a blockbuster deal to acquire Ben Simmons when James Harden was sent to Philadelphia in the middle of the season. Simmons did not play a game for the Nets yet for various reasons.
