When the Brooklyn Nets traded for James Harden, they sent the Rockets a combined seven first-round picks and pick swaps. It was the most draft capital to ever change hands in an NBA transaction.
This deal sees them recouping some of that loss. It’s something they’ve already done, having landed two first-round picks when they re-routed Harden to the 76ers in exchange for Ben Simmons.

Irving’s stock is probably a little low at the moment. Skipping the bulk of a season because you don’t want to get vaccinated has a way of affecting an already-questioned player’s image.
