With this deal, the Charlotte Hornets cut the rebuild short and pivot into win-now mode. They’ll need to acquire cheap veterans to compensate for all the lost rotation pieces here. They will also still need to find a starting-caliber big man.

They’re giving up a lot of intriguing young players here, but it’s worth it to pair Ball and Beal. Provided they retain Miles Bridges in restricted free agency, they’re suddenly among the most talented teams in the Eastern Conference. Fans should expect them to win a playoff series in 2022-23 after this trade.

Meanwhile, the Wizards give up one draft pick to land a bunch of recent first-round picks in this exchange.
