Chicago Bulls fans are likely banking on Zach LaVine to return for the 2022-23 season. They shouldn’t be. There are no safe assumptions in the NBA.
Granted, LaVine’s return feels more likely than not. This club has been relentless in its pursuit of wins over the last season and a half. They acquired Nikola Vucevic at last year’s trade deadline and added DeMar DeRozan and Alex Caruso to the mix over the offseason.
They’ve been busy. That doesn’t oblige LaVine to stay. He’s an unrestricted free agent. This club won 46 games and got bounced from the first round of the playoffs this year. If he’s not happy, there are understandable reasons for that.
He may be. Still, it won’t hurt the Bulls to have contingency plans.

With all of the aforementioned veterans on the roster, bottoming out would be a difficult task. They may be best served to forge ahead with a LaVine replacement.
