With a five-game loss to the Milwaukee Bucks, the Chicago Bulls season has officially come to a close. Teams are no doubt paying close attention to unrestricted free agent Zach LaVine, who could command a max deal this NBA offseason.

The star player of one team already publicly expressed interest in LaVine: the San Antonio Spurs’ Dejounte Murray.

In a since-deleted tweet, Dejounte Murray posted a photoshopped image of LaVine in a Spurs jersey. A clear endorsement of Zach LaVine, Murray deleted the tweet shortly after posting it and generating buzz on NBA Twitter.

The San Antonio Spurs missed the 2022 Playoffs after a Play-In tournament loss. After the loss, they will likely be looking to improve their roster. LaVine could be a complementary fit next to Murray, providing a scoring boost to the team.

Zach LaVine averaged 25.2 points in the past four seasons with Chicago, along with 4.5 assists and 4.8 rebounds. The guard earned an All-Star selection each of the past two seasons.

Last offseason, the Chicago Bulls acquired DeMar DeRozan, a star who plays LaVine’s own position, as well as Lonzo Ball, another guard. If LaVine is disconcerted by the Bulls’ roster construction, this offseason will be his opportunity to move on via NBA free agency.

Per Spotrac, the Spurs have the fourth-most projected cap space in the league, at $22,862,868. The team could certainly make moves to open max contract space for LaVine, should they share Murray’s interest in acquiring him.

The Chicago Bulls’ front office has not confirmed whether they will offer a max contract to LaVine. If they don’t, they could see him leave this offseason.
