New York Knicks Receive: C Christian Wood
Houston Rockets Receive: F Cam Reddish, G Kemba Walker
Admittedly, the defensive shortcomings of a Christian Wood / Julius Randle frontcourt pairing would give Thibodeau some major headaches. The offensive abilities of the same pair may relieve some tension.
For all of Wood’s problems on that end of the floor, he’s a big man who shot 39% from distance in 2021-22. That kind of floor-spacing would do wonders for Randle. He’ll still have to get some threes up on a nightly basis, but he’ll also be able to focus on driving to the rim.
Meanwhile, the Rockets have a pressing need for young wings. Reddish would be landing in a perfect position. There’s ample room in this offense for him to show off the shot creation abilities that generated so much hype around him in the first place. If he can grow as a defender, he’ll benefit the organization as well.

Kemba Walker would come by way of sign-and-trade. The Houston Rockets may opt to throw him an overpay on a one-year deal to make the money work here.
Still, this club could use a veteran point guard. They’ve been starting Kevin Porter Jr. at point guard. As talented as he is, it’s not his natural position. Having an experienced mentor behind him could help him learn the ropes at a faster pace.

Reddish remains the big fish for the Houston Rockets in this deal. If the Knicks are looking to get competitive quickly, they may see him as a worthy price to pay for Wood’s abilities.
