The Denver Nuggets’ season came to an end on Wednesday night, as they lost 102-98 to the Golden State Warriors. That victory gave the Warriors a 4-1 series win, as they will advance to face off against the winner between the Memphis Grizzlies and Minnesota Timberwolves.

Denver, meanwhile, will begin their offseason preparations. For them, getting healthy will be the No. 1 thing on their agenda. They went through the entire 2021-22 season without Jamal Murray and had Michael Porter Jr. for only nine, injury-plagued games.

Another thing that the organization will have to decide on is if they are going to offer Nikola Jokic a supermax deal. The deal could be worth $254 million over five years, which would be the largest in league history. For the Nuggets, Jokic is worth every penny as he has a chance to win back-to-back MVP awards this season.

Jokic set a record this season, becoming the first player in league history to score at least 2,000 points with 1,000 rebounds and 500 assists in a single season. He averaged 27.1 points, 13.8 rebounds and 7.9 assists becoming the first player to average at least 25, 13, and 7 in a season. He’s also the first player to lead his team in points, rebounds, assists, blocks, steals, and field goal percentage in a single season since steals and blocks became an official stat during the 1973-74 season.

Jokic just turned 27-years old in February, so he should have plenty of MVP-caliber seasons ahead of him. Committing that kind of money that the supermax is worth to a single player is always a risk, but Jokic is as deserving as anyone.

Should the Nuggets present him with the extension, which seems like a mere formality at this point, he would sign the deal.

“I would like it, of course,” Jokic said when asked about a contract extension. “But it’s not something that I’m deciding. I think if [the] offer is on the table, of course I’m going to accept it because I really like the organization, I really like the people who works here. I’m in [a] really good relationship with everybody from [the] owner to equipment manager.”
