Dallas Mavericks Receive: F Julius Randle
New York Knicks Receive: G Spencer Dinwiddie, F Josh Green, 2024 First-Round Pick (DAL)
The New York Knicks may need a point guard. They may also have their sights set a little higher than Spencer Dinwiddie.
Which isn’t to say Dinwiddie is talentless. He’s a certified bucket. Still, he’s prone to bouts of inefficiency that do make him a questionable proposition as a starting floor general.
The Knicks aren’t strictly here for his services. They’re taking steps towards rebuilding, effectively swapping Randle for Green and a first-round pick. Green is a high-effort defender. At 21, he still has time to develop his presently unreliable jump shot.
As for the Mavericks, they’re finally getting Doncic a second option. Randle may thrive in that situation as well. With Doncic drawing the bulk of the defensive attention, it wouldn’t be a surprise to see his efficiency creep back up to its 2020-21 levels.

In that event, the Mavericks would be a much more formidable squad next season.
