Jordan Poole Pulling Off Major Breakout For Warriors Alongside Curry, Thompson

Jordan Poole, Golden State Warriors, NBA News

The Golden State Warriors entered the 2021-22 NBA season knowing the trio of Stephen Curry, Draymond Green, and Klay Thompson were going to all play together at some point this season.

Thompson has not seen the floor in three years. Curry was playing at an MVP level before getting injured in March and Green dealt with multiple injuries that sidelined him this season.

As a result, others had to step up, especially at the guard position with Curry and Thompson not fully healthy.

That player was Jordan Poole, who was the Warriors’ first-round pick in 2019.

Poole’s first two seasons proved to be beneficial as the organization was still steps away from being a playoff team once again as both Klay Thompson and Stephen Curry were rehabbing from injury.

As Curry, Green, and Thompson were trying to rekindle the chemistry from going to five straight NBA Finals this season, the only question was how they would be able to adjust with younger players on the court, including Poole.

That was answered easily not by their play on the court, but by their character as teammates with the leadership Stephen Curry, Klay Thompson, and Draymond Green have already set in a Golden State Warriors uniform.

During the regular season, Jordan Poole played in 76 games and started 51. He averaged 18.5 points and led the league with a 92.5 free-throw percentage.

Over these last three years, including last year’s play-in tournament, Poole was able to gain the confidence of being an NBA starter and be a big contributor to the Warriors winning 53 games after only winning 15 times two seasons ago.

Poole’s contribution this season has led to 10, 30-point games and two double-doubles.

In addition, the 22-year-old also had nine games of a plus/minus of at least 22 points, meaning Golden State outscored opponents by 22 points while Poole was on the floor. This was highlighted when the Warriors went on the road in January and defeated Chicago by 42 with Poole finishing with a game-high +38.
