The Cleveland Cavaliers are enjoying one of the more surprising performances of the 2021-22 NBA season. Some may be a little disappointed they were unable to hold onto a top-six seed in the Eastern Conference, but to even qualify for the Play-In Tournament is more than many people would have predicted coming into the season.

The future is very bright in Cleveland, as they secured their first winning season without LeBron James on the roster this century. They have a great young nucleus led by Darius Garland, Evan Mobley, Jarrett Allen, Lauri Markkanen and Isaac Okoro that provides plenty of promise about what is to come for the Cavaliers.

One player who has seen it all these last few seasons is Kevin Love. Love was acquired from the Minnesota Timberwolves in August of 2014 to create a Big 3 with LeBron James and Kyrie Irving. He was an integral part of the team winning a title in 2016, overcoming a 3-1 series deficit against the Golden State Warriors.

Following LeBron James’ departure from the team in free agency in 2018, it seemed like a matter of time until Love moved on as well. Surprisingly, he agreed to an extension with the Cleveland Cavaliers, who were bottoming out in the standings without James.

Love was seemingly on the trade block ever since, but no deal materialized. Given how things have now transpired, both parties are likely happy to have stuck it out. Love has been a key contributor off the bench, playing in the most games in a single season since 2015-16.

Recently, Love talked to FanSided and touched on numerous subjects. The title run, mental health awareness and the direction the franchise is heading were a few topics. He was also talked about what a third stint with the Cleveland Cavaliers could mean for LeBron James.

“I mean, that’s like a storybook ending for him,” Love said. “I don’t want to project what he may or may not want to do, but where our team is trending and how we’re set up to win for a very long time and how much you know, Cleveland and Akron and all of Ohio loves him. It’d be great to get Bronny over here too and then we’ll call it a day.”

LeBron James can hit free agency in 2023 and the Cavaliers could very well be on his prospective list of teams to join. They are on the up and up with a talented young roster and his presence could be helpful to get them over the hump.

Despite being 37-years old and in his 19th season in the NBA, James remains one of the best players in the league. He is in the running to lead the league in scoring, neck and neck with Joel Embiid and Giannis Antetokoumpo.

Ending his career where it began, playing alongside his son for a winning Cleveland Cavaliers team, would be the perfect storybook ending for what has been a remarkable career for LeBron James.
