Following their franchise’s first championship in 2019, the Toronto Raptors struggled to find their footing during the 2019-20 season, followed by missing the playoffs during the 2020-21 NBA season.

This season, the Raptors entered the year with high expectations that they could once again be a championship contender, but injuries and inconsistent play outside of their core starting group has resulted in Toronto struggling to maintain playoff positioning in the standings.

Currently 39-31 on the year, the Raptors are tied with the Cavaliers for the 6-seed in the Eastern Conference, still trying to find a way to avoid the play-in tournament.

Pascal Siakam, Fred VanVleet, Scottie Barnes, OG Anunoby and Gary Trent Jr. make up a really strong starting-five in the Eastern Conference, but Barnes is the only player on the Raptors’ roster to have started in over games this year.

Since the departures of Marc Gasol and Serge Ibaka following the 2019 championship run, the Raptors have been looking for ways to replicate production at the center position.

Pascal Siakam, Precious Achiuwa, Chris Boucher and Khem Birch have been the four key big men in the Raptors’ frontcourt this season, but many around the league expect Toronto to target a big man either in free agency or on the trade block.
