There has been a lot of talk about the relationship between the New Orleans Pelicans and NBA star Zion Williamson. There seems to be a lot of disconnects there as Williamson continues to rehab following a procedure on his foot that has kept him sidelined for the entire season.

Williamson is only in his third season in the NBA, but it sounds like he wants to already make a move to another team. While he has always said the right things in the media, it has been reported that his family wants him out of New Orleans.

Given his injury history, it would be hard to imagine any team parting ways with major assets, whether it be draft capital or young players. Zion Williamson needs to prove he can remain healthy for an extended period of time before anyone commits to parting ways with pieces in a trade and signing him to a long-term deal.

However, given his talent and production when he is on the court, there are definitely teams that would take a chance on him. He is truly dominant when on the court, averaging 25.7 points per game in his career to go along with seven rebounds and 3.2 assists.

Where may he ultimately end up if he gets out of New Orleans? An NBA executive that recently spoke to NBA Analysis Network believes he would end up in the city that never sleeps with the New York Knicks.

“Look, I could see a scenario where Zion (Williamson) sticks it out with New Orleans. However, I also know that he loves the idea of playing in New York. If the Knicks play their cards right, I think he winds up in Madison Square Garden.”

Williamson landing with the Knicks is what fans were dreaming of during the 2019 NBA Draft Lottery, with Kevin Durant coming along in free agency afterward. None of that happened at the time, as the New Orleans Pelicans won the lottery and the New York Knicks landed in the No. 3 spot, selecting his Duke teammate, RJ Barrett. Durant signed with the crosstown rival Brooklyn Nets, along with Kyrie Irving.

There was another lottery pick from that team in Cam Reddish, who went No. 10 overall to the Atlanta Hawks. He is now also with the New York Knicks, so the whole band from the Blue Devils would be back together if Barrett and Reddish sign extensions and Williamson eventually finds his way over there.

That is likely the new pipe dream for some fans, but the concerns revolving around Zion Williamson are legitimate. If he cannot show that he can stay healthy, he is not worth taking a risk on as he will likely be angling for a max contract once his rookie deal expires.
