Heading into the NBA All-Star break, time is not only running out for teams to lock up their playoff spots this season but for players to make their impact felt and try to make the All-NBA teams.

Only 15 players get featured on the All-NBA teams and being named an All-NBA performer has major implications on players’ futures and their contract situations.

Compared to maximum contracts that players can receive, those that win MVP, Defensive Player of the Year, or named to one of the three All-NBA teams are supermax contract eligible.

To put things in perspective, Giannis Antetokounmpo recently signed a five-year, $228 million supermax deal with the Milwaukee Bucks, paying him an AAV of about $45 million per year.

An example of a standard maximum contract in the NBA can be Tobias Harris with the Philadelphia 76ers, who is in the midst of a five-year, $180 million deal.

Making the All-NBA team makes a big difference in a player’s future contract and everyone in the league wants to be recognized as one of the Top-15 players in the entire league!

As we enter the All-Star break, Steph Curry, Giannis Antetokounmpo, Joel Embiid, Nikola Jokic, DeMar DeRozan, Chris Paul, LeBron James, Kevin Durant, and Luka Doncic all seem like no-brainer options to be named to one of the three All-NBA teams this season and it is not hard to believe that Devin Booker, Trae Young, Ja Morant, and Rudy Gobert could also find their names on one of the three lists.

If all these players are to be named All-NBA talents, that leaves just two spots left up for grabs heading into the final few weeks of the 2021-22 NBA regular season.

There are limited spots available to make the All-NBA list, but these three stars could very well make a late-season push to be included in this year’s honors.
