The key talk of this past NBA offseason was what would happen with Dennis Schroder and his potential contract situation.
After turning down a four-year extension worth $84 million with the Lakers to chase a contract worth upwards of $100 million in the offseason, the market for Dennis Schroder was very low, ultimately forcing him to sign a one-year, $5.9 million deal with the Boston Celtics just to remain in the NBA.
In Boston, Dennis Schroder has made the most of his opportunities this season and has once again proven to be a force off the bench, much like he was during the 2019-20 season with the Oklahoma City Thunder as Chris Paul’s backup.
Through 48 games this season, Schroder has averaged 14.4 points, 3.3 rebounds, 4.3 assists, and has shot 43.8% from the floor, making him one of the better backup guards in the entire league. Dennis Schroder’s playmaking abilities are what make him valuable and he is expected to be dealt ahead of the NBA trade deadline this season.

The Celtics have liked the production they have received from Dennis Schroder this season, but he is not looked at as a long-term piece in their backcourt, and Boston’s intentions at the beginning of the year when they first signed Schroder was to flip him for assets at the trade deadline.
With the NBA trade deadline on Thursday and the Celtics running out of time to make a deal, they could very well just take the best deal presented to them for the 28-year-old guard.
The Chicago Bulls are at the top of the Eastern Conference standings with the Miami Heat and look like a true championship contender this season, but their backcourt depth is starting to become a problem.

Lonzo Ball and Alex Caruso are both out indefinitely right now due to injuries and with Coby White also being banged up at the moment, Chicago has been left with rookie Ayo Dosunmu as their only guard in the rotation next to All-Stars Zach LaVine, Nikola Vucevic, and DeMar DeRozan.
Adding another reliable ball-handler in the backcourt could be something that draws a lot of interest from the Bulls’ front-office, hence their rumored interest in Dennis Schroder.
