Losing in the Western Conference Semifinals last season after holding the NBA’s best record was a big disappointment for the Utah Jazz, but not as big of a disappointment as this season is shaping up to be.

Utah is currently 30-21 and very much in the playoff picture in the Western Conference, but they have lost 11 of their last 13 games with Rudy Gobert and Donovan Mitchell being injured. Gobert has been dealing with a calf injury that has kept him sidelined since January 23 and Donovan Mitchell has been out with concussion-like symptoms since January 17.

Losing two All-Stars definitely hurts any team’s chances for success in this league, but the Jazz cannot seem to catch a break. In their last game on January 30 against the Timberwolves, veteran forward Joe Ingles was driving to the rim when his left knee gave out.

Initial reports were not good for Ingles and the Jazz, then the following day, ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski reported that Joe Ingles had suffered a torn left ACL and would miss the rest of the season.

LATEST NBA NEWS & TRADE RUMORS: Chances Of Boston Celtics Trading Marcus Smart — Revealed

Nothing can seem to go right for the Jazz right now and with Mitchell not expected to return this upcoming week, Utah could begin to slip further down the Western Conference standings leading up to the All-Star break.

With the NBA trade deadline next week, the Jazz have been in the news about possibly targeting Pistons’ forward Jerami Grant, but their main problem right now is on the defensive-end of the floor.

Having Rudy Gobert, a 3-time Defensive Player of the Year, out with injury definitely does not help Utah’s defense. However, he cannot be the only impactful defender this team has if they are to be real title threats.

Smart is one of the best on-ball defenders in the NBA currently and the Celtics are also a team that is in a similar position to the Jazz leading up to the trade deadline.

Could Boston and Utah come together to make a significant trade not only involving Marcus Smart, but one of the better bench scorers in the league? Let’s take a look at what this trade between the Celtics and Jazz could end up looking like.
