It is never too early to this about tanking for the top pick in the 2022 NBA Draft. This is a tale as old as time in the NBA. Well, it seems that way since the Philadelphia 76ers seemed to make it popular about a seven years ago. This season is no different.
The No. 1 overall pick in last year’s draft was landed by the Detroit Pistons. They did not finish with the worst record in the league but were given a chance to draft Cade Cunningham, who was viewed as a can’t-miss prospect. They are just one of many rebuilding teams around the league. This is where some could already be looking into tanking this season.
It is hard to identify which teams are tanking and which are just that bad. At the end of the day, players still need to play for their jobs and coaches might not be locked in either. This has to be a decision made from above so all parties are on the same page and jobs are safe.

If that is the case, then teams can make a move to tank in order to land the top pick. This year, it could be for the likes of Paolo Banchero or Chet Holmgren.
This is a deep draft once again and plenty of teams will fight to be near the top. These three teams could be in line to tank in order to have a chance at the No. 1 pick in the 2022 NBA Draft.
