Luka Doncic is the cornerstone of the Dallas Mavericks’ franchise, but finding consistency around him the last few NBA seasons has been tough. With Kristaps Porzingis constantly being out of the rotation due to injuries and Tim Hardaway Jr. not being the most consistent scorer on the team, Doncic really has been left as the sole contributor for the Mavericks.

Key secondary talents like Maxi Kleber, Dorian Finney-Smith and Jalen Brunson have stepped up from time-to-time, but Dallas is a team that is approaching the trade deadline this season with the mindset of possibly adding talent as they get ready for the playoffs.

The Western Conference is weaker than it has usually been and the Mavericks have looked to take advantage of their opportunities this season. Winning 12 of their last 15 games, the Mavericks have gotten hot at the right time and now sit just 3 games back of the Utah Jazz as the 5-seed in the West.

Over their last 15 games, the Mavericks have picked up key wins over the Warriors, Nuggets and the Grizzlies twice, however, consistency is still a glaring problem for this franchise. Dallas ranks 4th in the league defensively and they have looked like one of the best defensive teams since the start of January, yet their offense is still stagnant at times.

The Dallas Mavericks have not won a playoff series since 2011, the year they won their only title with Dirk Nowitzki, and if they are to advance past the first-round this season, they will need to find ways to add scoring depth to their roster.

Due to his various injuries through the years and inability to take advantage of his size in the low-post, now may be the best time for the Mavericks to explore opportunities to trade Kristaps Porzingis. It is hard to imagine the Mavericks and Spurs, two bitter rivals, coming together to make a trade with one another, but San Antonio could have a level of interest in Porzingis.

Being just 26-years-old and being a former All-Star, Porzingis has looked good at times this season when on the floor for the Mavericks and with the Spurs having no identity right now as a young, rebuilding franchise, Kristaps Porzingis could quickly become “the guy” for the Spurs.

Nobody knows what to expect from the Spurs heading into the trade deadline this season, which is why it would not be surprising to see them look to leverage some assets to add more long-term value to their roster.

Derrick White has been a key contributor at the shooting guard position next to Dejounte Murray in the backcourt for the Spurs since being drafted in 2017. With the emergence of Murray though and the Spurs just drafting Joshua Primo, now could be the time that they look to trade White for value.

Could we actually see a trade between the Mavericks and Spurs involving both Kristaps Porzingis and Derrick White this season? Let’s take a look at a trade proposal put together by Bleacher Report’s Greg Swartz that makes this trade a reality.
