Does this trade make sense for the Los Angeles Lakers?
In terms of adding what they need on the wing and on the perimeter, the additions of Jaylen Brown and Marcus Smart certainly make sense for the Lakers. However, they should not give up Anthony Davis for anything because when healthy, he truly is arguably a Top-5 talent in the NBA.
Davis has had his struggles in Los Angeles from time to time and many are saying that this season is a “down-year” for him, but the 8-time All-Star is still averaging 23.3 points, 9.9 rebounds and 2.0 blocks while shooting 52.1% from the floor.
Maybe I do not know the definition of having a “down-year”, but these are certainly numbers that can help the Lakers win another championship.
Anthony Davis is not the problem in Los Angeles right now, nor is head coach Frank Vogel. This team’s depth is atrocious and the Lakers’ front-office knew the risks that came with assembling a roster of guys that reached their primes in the early 2010s.

There is nothing the Lakers can really gain by making this trade other than adding a little bit of depth to their roster. Jaylen Brown is a terrific, young talent, but his fit next to LeBron James would be questionable seeing as he is a very ball-dominant player that struggles to play off-the-ball on the perimeter.
We should expect Los Angeles to make some trades at the deadline, just not involving Anthony Davis.
