Would this trade make sense for the Portland Trail Blazers?
This trade would only make sense for the Portland Trail Blazers if they decide to abandon the Damian Lillard era of Blazers basketball. And to be honest, it might be time to do just that. With no clear path to title contention, blowing it up would be smart.
At 25 years old, Ben Simmons has still yet to enter the prime of his career. Portland would have a chance to put a solid team of young players around him that fit him as a player, instead of trying to put him next to someone that hurts his best playstyle.
With Joel Embiid clogging the paint, Simmons never had room to work. This isn’t saying that the Philadelphia 76ers prioritized wrong, because Embiid is the better player, but it also hurt Simmons’ style of play. Portland would be able to avoid that at all costs.
Furkan Korkmaz and Paul Reed would be decent young players to take a chance on, too, but this trade is primarily about Simmons. However, those two picks could be solid, too, as Lillard would be getting up there in age at that point.

This is the perfect trade for the 76ers to do if they wanted to hit the reset button, which they should definitely consider doing. Simmons is a great young piece to build around, and Lillard would be sent to a place where he can compete for titles.
