The Philadelphia 76ers have done a great job this NBA season given all of the distractions that the Ben Simmons situation has caused. Usually, when a team loses a 25-year old All-Star, even with the flaws that Simmons has, they are going to regress. That hasn’t been the case in Philadelphia.
While they had some rough patches, the 76ers have had a great season everything considered. They got hit hard, like many teams, by players going into health and safety protocols. That caused them to go into a slide, but when healthy, they have proven to be a strong team.
The 76ers are currently 25-18 and in sixth place in the Eastern Conference. However, they are only 2.5 games behind the first-place Chicago Bulls, so one good stretch of basketball and they could vault not only into a position to have home-court advantage, but have the playoffs run through Philadelphia once again.
Given how well the team is performing, the 76ers are smart to wait things out in the Simmons’ trade front. If they don’t get exactly what they are looking for, they don’t have to hit the panic button since the team has been good this season.
