Would this trade make sense for the Sacramento Kings?
For the Sacramento Kings, this trade would completely reset their franchise. Not in the sense that they wouldn’t be competitive, but in the sense that everything would look different. They would commit to building around Ben Simmons and Tyrese Haliburton.
Simmons still has a ton of potential, and once he gets right from a mental health perspective, could end up being a perennial Defensive Player of the Year candidate and All-NBA player. That’s the sort of guy franchises want to build their team around.
Plus, while Tobias Harris is wildly overpaid, he can still be a solid contributor on a playoff team. The Kings would get a first for taking on his contract, but he would probably help them win a few more games over the course of the next few years.
Sacramento’s starting lineup could look something like this – Davion Mitchell, Haliburton, Simmons, Harris, and Richaun Holmes. They would obviously have to work on adding depth throughout the roster, but that’s not a terrible foundation to work with.
