Would this trade make sense for the Atlanta Hawks?

The Atlanta Hawks need to shake things up. Despite reaching the Eastern Conference Finals last year, something clearly isn’t working.

Since John Collins has already expressed his desire to leave (reportedly), then his value is probably down. However, this trade would still be good for the Hawks.

With how poor their defense has been this year, and in years past, getting two defensive-minded veterans would be great for Atlanta. Pairing Trae Young with Derrick White in the backcourt would provide a much-needed balance.

Plus, while Thaddeus Young hasn’t played much this season, he showed that he still has plenty left in the tank last year. He can be a solid defensive presence to pair alongside Clint Capela in the frontcourt because not only can he defend, but Young can also space the floor a bit.

Lonnie Walker IV would just be a young player the Hawks could take a flyer on, while Drew Eubanks would be thrown in to match salaries. Atlanta would also be able to get off of Danilo Gallinari’s salary in this deal, too, which is solid.

Overall, this trade is mostly about grabbing two quality veterans and getting rid of Gallinari. Trading Collins stinks, but if he’s still complaining about how he’s being used after getting a massive contract extension, then something is wrong and he has to go.
