This Pelicans-Pistons Trade Lands Jerami Grant In New Orleans

Jerami Grant has been one of the breakout stars in the NBA dating back to last season, but his future in Detroit is in question. The 27-year-old forward signed a three-year, $60M deal with the Pistons ahead of last season and given how well he has played for them, his trade value is at an all-time high.

The Pistons have really liked the production they have received from Jerami Grant and while he is their veteran leader, Detroit is in the middle of another rebuild. Gaining future value and building for the future is the main goal of this franchise right now and while GM Troy Weaver has done a great job assembling building blocks for the future, Grant’s contract is definitely something to monitor.

Having just one more year left on his contract, Jerami Grant is a prime trade candidate that plenty of teams across the league are keeping tabs on. In fact, several playoff contending teams have already reached out to the Pistons about a potential trade involving Grant ahead of the NBA trade deadline, but the Pistons have not made a decision about what they will do with their breakout star.

Detroit is not actively shopping Jerami Grant on the trade block, but they are being receptive to trade offers and willing to entertain all trades presented to them. Capitalizing on Grant’s value now before he becomes a free agent in 2023 could be appealing to the Pistons, which is why he is receiving a ton of trade interest.

Teams like the Lakers and Trail Blazers have been rumored to be targeting the Detroit Pistons forward, but a team like the New Orleans Pelicans could wind up being a “sleeper” team to watch.

After starting the season 3-16, making the playoffs seemed out of the question for the Pelicans, but they are now 16-28 and just a couple of games back from being inside the Western Conference playoff picture via the play-in tournament.

Brandon Ingram has been spectacular and is once again playing at an All-Star-level for the Pelicans, but without Zion Williamson, this team’s ceiling is very limited.

Others like Josh Hart, Jonas Valanciunas and Devonte’ Graham have stepped up offensively, but filling a void on the wing is critical for the Pelicans this season if they are to possibly make a second-half push for the playoffs.

Being a two-way combo-forward, Jerami Grant could fill a lot of needs New Orleans currently has and assuming Zion can return at some point near or after the All-Star break, the New Orleans Pelicans could have a really solid group to contend for a playoff spot.
