When the Los Angeles Lakers traded for Russell Westbrook this past NBA offseason, a lot of fans got excited.
Unfortunately, now halfway through the year, most of those same fans are probably wishing that the Lakers made the reported deal for Buddy Hield instead.
Westbrook has been plagued by three-point shooting and turnover woes this season, but that’s something the Lakers should have projected before the year even started. It’s been really hampering their ability to succeed this year.
Not too long ago, it was reported that they were exploring trades for Westbrook. They were scouring the league looking for deals. Unfortunately, at his age, there aren’t many teams itching to add him on that contract. His value is likely in the dirt.

If the Lakers were desperate to offload him, they’d almost assuredly have to do so at a fraction of the value they’d want to. But if they do want to do that, the Dallas Mavericks could be a team they could look at as a potential trade partner.
The fit may be weird with Luka Doncic and Westbrook, but if the price is dirt cheap, why not explore a deal? The Mavs would definitely underpay, but if the Los Angeles Lakers really want to get rid of Westbrook that badly, what sort of trade could be worked out?
