Would this trade make sense for the Houston Rockets?
Houston would be getting their new franchise superstar in this deal. Anthony Davis would lead a team of otherwise young talent, but would (in theory) be enough to drag them to the playoffs. The question is, should that be their goal right now?
Realistically speaking, the trades Houston Rockets know that they’re a rebuilding team. It was clear going into the season that they weren’t going to win a ton of games, and the organization needed to be okay with that in the spirit of the rebuild.
But trading for Davis would give them a real shot at making a playoff push every season. Next year and beyond, they’d have a promising young star in Jalen Green and Davis. Combine those two, and they could have one of the best duos for the next five years or so.
That being said, they would have almost no depth, which is crucial for making a title run. Plus, giving up three unprotected first-round picks is not exactly what a rebuilding team wants to do, even if it is for a guy like Davis.

Overall, it’d probably be in Houston’s best interest to stay away from this trade, regardless of the players they’d have to give up. It’s the picks that matter. They don’t want to mortgage the future for a superstar player who would probably only bring them to the playoffs, at best.
