Boston Celtics Receive: G Jalen Brunson, F Dorian Finney-Smith, F Maxi Kleber
Dallas Mavericks Receive: G Marcus Smart, G Dennis Schroder, F Aaron Nesmith, 2022 Second-Round Pick
This trade would see the two teams swap guards. One would be prioritizing the future, while the other would begin to focus more on winning now and getting rid of expiring contracts.
There’s certainly an argument to be made that each team would benefit from this trade.
As mentioned, Jalen Brunson has been great this year. So far, the Villanova product has been averaging 16.0 points, 3.8 rebounds, and 5.7 assists while shooting 50.0 percent from the field and 33.6 percent from three-point land.
Marcus Smart has been playing well for the C’s, with the one obvious downside being his efficiency. The veteran guard is putting up 11.6 points, 4.0 rebounds, 5.3 assists, and 1.9 steals while shooting 39.3 percent from the field and 30.4 percent from deep.

Dennis Schroder has put up big-time numbers for the C’s this season, too, averaging 15.7 points and 4.4 assists. And Dorian Finney-Smith has been a quality starter for Dallas, putting up 10.5 points, 4.7 rebounds, and 1.9 assists while shooting 37.6 percent from deep.
Both teams would be pivoting a little bit to try and shake things up in order to improve. The only question is, what’s the benefit of this trade for both sides. Why would both the Celtics and the Mavericks be interested in this sort of deal?
