Does this trade make sense for the New Orleans Pelicans?

If the New Orleans Pelicans can get their hands on a talented wing like Norman Powell for very the very little value they would be giving up in this trade, then why not pull-the-trigger on this deal?

This trade is not going to happen, but Tomas Satoransky and Jaxson Hayes hold very little value to the Pelicans at the moment. They are prepared to let Satoransky become a free agent in the offseason and it is hard to imagine that the Pelicans will be looking to give Hayes a long-term extension after they just signed both Jonas Valanciunas and Willy Hernangomez to long-term deals.

Norman Powell would fill an immediate scoring hole the Pelicans have on the wing and at full-strength, they could roll out a starting rotation of Graham, Powell, Ingram, Williamson and Valanciunas with Hart coming off-the-bench in a sixth-man role.

That is certainly a good enough six-man rotation to make the playoffs in the Western Conference and who knows, maybe Powell could be the missing link for New Orleans to finally become relevant again.

It is very likely though that if the Pelicans have true interest in Norman Powell still that the Portland Trail Blazers would most definitely want Josh Hart. At just 26-years-old and being an impactful secondary talent, Hart would fit in well next to Lillard and McCollum as the Blazers look to rebuild.

Overall, the Pelicans are on the verge of getting themselves into the play-in tournament range this season, which is why they should not give up all hope at the trade deadline. Using guys like Satoransky and Hayes to upgrade their roster is something that definitely makes sense for the Pelicans.
