Could Kings Be Tobias Harris Suitor In Ben Simmons Trade?

Philadelphia 76ers, NBA Trade Rumors, Ben Simmons, Tobias Harris

There may not be a team in the NBA as desperate to make an upgrade to their roster as much as the Sacramento Kings. The Kings are currently tied for the longest playoff drought in NBA history at 15 years. That is not a record that they want to become the sole owners of, but they are well on their way to a 16th straight season with no postseason berth.

There isn’t a single player that is untouchable right now in Sacramento. The organization would prefer to build the roster up around guards De’Aaron Fox and Tyrese Haliburton, but the front office has the green light to make a deal involving them if it will help them achieve their goal of qualifying for the postseason and setting the team up well for the future.

One of the players that the Kings have been connected to the most is Ben Simmons of the Philadelphia 76ers. Daryl Morey and the front office have stuck to their guns, looking to acquire an impact player in return for Simmons.

Would De’Aaron Fox be someone Philadelphia has an interest in? It has not been shared which players are on the 76ers’ wish list, but Fox very well may not make the cut. If that is the case, the Kings could take another route to acquire Simmons.

LATEST NBA NEWS & TRADE RUMORS: De’Aaron Fox Trending Towards Being Traded By Sacramento Kings

Recently, it was revealed that the Philadelphia 76ers are looking to attach Tobias Harris to Simmons in trade talks. According to Marc Stein on his Substack, that may be the avenue that the Kings take in landing the player they covet in Simmons.

More than one rival team believes the Sacramento Kings, in its desire for a significant shakeup as it bumbles toward a record 16th consecutive season out of the playoffs, could be convinced to take on Tobias Harris’ contract to facilitate a Simmons deal. If the Sixers can’t get the top-flight player they covet, going ahead with a Simmons deal that enables them to shed the two years and nearly $80 million left on Harris’ contract after this season might be too enticing to resist rather than holding out for a star in return.

The Kings would be taking on a huge financial burden acquiring Harris along with Ben Simmons, but they have the means to match salary. It would be easier to include De’Aaron Fox and his $28.1 million salary, but the Sacramento Kings could make it work without including him.

A package of Buddy Hield, Harrison Barnes, Tristan Thompson, Marvin Bagley III and Maurice Harkless would meet the league’s salary requirements. Clearing Harris’ contracts off the books may be the best avenue for Philadelphia to take if they get tired of waiting on a star player to become available that they can chase.
