Robert Covington – Portland Trail Blazers
Should the Bulls not be able to pursue a trade for Pistons’ forward Jerami Grant, they should immediately go out West and take a long look at a veteran like Robert Covington.
The Portland Trail Blazers are on the verge of complete collapse with Damian Lillard being out and currently 16-24 on the season, there is not much hope for this organization’s playoff chances.
It seems very likely that the Blazers will be “sellers” at the trade deadline this season, which is why guys like Jusuf Nurkic, Robert Covington and Norman Powell are being shopped around.
Covington is in his 9th NBA season and while he is owed $12.9M in the final year of his contract this season, the veteran forward is one of the better “3-and-D” type players available at the trade deadline.

The Bulls would not have to be worried about being tied down to Robert Covington long-term seeing as he is in the final year of his contract and Covington has always been regarded as a really strong defensive player.
He has averaged at least 1 steal and 1 block per game over the course of a season since the 2014-15 season and so far this season, Robert Covington is averaging 1.4 steals and 1.3 blocks per game.
Standing 6’7” with a 7’2” wingspan, Covington has the ability to play many different positions. Not only can he play the small-forward position on the wing, but he can also play out of the low-post at power-forward and can be a stretch big man at times at the center position in small lineups.

Adding Robert Covington to this Bulls team gives them another defensive player to lean on primarily on the wing and in their frontcourt, as well as another role player that they can look to for production outside of their three All-Stars.
With the Portland Trail Blazers likely to rebuild in the near future, bringing in Coby White is something that could be intriguing to them. Damian Lillard and CJ McCollum do not seem like they are going anywhere anytime soon, but White provides leverage behind them in their rotations and could also be a future asset the Blazers leverage during their rebuild.
