Does this trade make sense for the Detroit Pistons?

Maybe the Pistons could get more overall value in a one-on-one team trade involving Jerami Grant, but taking on Danilo Gallinari’s salary definitely offers some advantages to the Pistons.

Gallinari has struggled this season, but since the start of the 2019-20 season, he has averaged 14.8 points, 4.6 rebounds and has shot 40.3% from three-point range. They would be stuck with him through the end of this season, but maybe the Pistons could actually get something for Danilo Gallinari moving forward in trade scenarios since he would be entering the final year of his career and is an experienced, veteran scorer.

Assuming they just take on Gallinari’s contract and pay him through the end of next season, Detroit makes out well in the sense that they would be adding Jaden Springer and another prospect via Charlotte’s draft pick.

As of right now, the Hornets’ draft pick would transfer over this season since it does not fall inside the Top-18 currently, giving the Pistons a chance to have two first-round picks in 2022.

Jaden Springer could be a key complementary talent in the backcourt next to Cade Cunningham and Killian Hayes given his athletic abilities and who knows who the Pistons could look to add in the draft.

Detroit is in a very good position right now as a young, rebuilding franchise and this trade only gives them more assets to build with for the future.
