Nothing about this trade stands out from the Boston Celtics’ perspective and Schroder’s value is definitely higher than what they are getting, but his market is very low right now.

Teams have definitely taken notice of Dennis Schroder’s accomplishments as a bench player in Boston, but very few teams in the league actually need his services as a point guard right now.

When they first signed him, the Celtics’ main intentions were to improve Schroder’s overall value and then flip him for assets at the trade deadline. Well, we are less than a month away from the deadline and Boston has not received many calls for Schroder.

If value presents itself for Dennis Schroder, the Boston Celtics need to take it because they need more assets to try and make a big move. With Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown, Boston is definitely a playoff threat, but they need more talent to be considered an overall championship threat.

Having a $17M TPE definitely helps their cause at the deadline, but by getting some key assets in return and a second-round draft pick from Cleveland, maybe the Celtics can being to put the framework together on a somewhat big trade ahead of the deadline.

Acquiring Rajon Rondo a week or so ago was definitely a smart move for the Cleveland Cavaliers and he has played well, but he is nothing more than a backup veteran on the bench. Lamar Stevens has stepped as well for Cleveland, but they really do need another ball-handler next to Darius Garland in the starting rotation.

Dennis Schroder would be an excellent fit in Cleveland not only because of his patience on the offensive-end of the floor, but because of his ability to create space for others.

Kevin Pangos and Dylan Windler hold minimal roles off-the-bench for the Cavaliers and while they would continue doing so in Boston, the Boston Celtics do need to try and add more depth to their roster since their bench rotation has been very underwhelming.

Pursuing Dennis Schroder is a low-cost, low-risk play for the Cleveland Cavaliers ahead of the trade deadline.
