Myles Turner – Indiana Pacers

Are the Indiana Pacers going to “rebuild” this season or will they look to “reboot” themselves?

This seems to be a huge question looming over this Pacers franchise right now and while Shams Charania of The Athletic did report in December that Indiana was on the verge of a rebuild, their management and ownership has since come out to refute these comments

Currently 15-26, the Pacers should absolutely be looking to make some roster changes this season and while All-Star forward Domantas Sabonis is unlikely to be on the move, Myles Turner is one of the more likely players to be traded at the deadline this season.

Myles Turner seems to find his name on the trade block every single season, but with just one more year left on his contract, it seems like now is the best time for the Pacers to try and capitalize on his value.

Leading the league in blocked shots two of the last three seasons and leading the league in blocks once again this season, Myles Turner is one of the most impactful defensive big men in the league today and his upside really is not limited offensively.

The Pacers do not utilize their big man on offense much, resulting in him only averaging 12.7 points per game over the course of his career, but he has shot 48.9% from the floor and 35.1% from deep over the course of his career.

Being able to make an impact on both ends of the floor, Myles Turner is one of the best “win-now” frontcourt options available at the trade deadline this season and a move seems like the best thing for not just the Pacers, but Turner as well.

Early on in December, Turner voiced his frustrations with his team to The Athletic’s Jared Weiss and even stated, “It’s clear that I’m not valued as anything more than a glorified role player here, and I want something more, more opportunity…”

This sure sounds like someone that has had enough of the Pacers as an organization and would like to move on with his career!

Making $17.5M this season and $17.5M next season before becoming an unrestricted free agent in 2023, Myles Turner is affordable, impactful and ready for a new challenge in his career. The Knicks, Mavericks, Hornets and Lakers have been mentioned as a few teams to show interest in the shot-blocking big man and we should expect a few other teams to inquire about him over the next month or so as well.
