Thaddeus Young – San Antonio Spurs

Ever since he was traded to the San Antonio Spurs in the sign-and-trade deal that sent DeMar DeRozan to the Chicago Bulls in the offseason, Thaddeus Young has been rumored to be on the trade block.

Various teams have reached out to the Spurs about a potential trade, the Phoenix Suns being one of those teams according to what sources have told NBA Analysis Network, but no deal has been reached for the veteran forward.

Now in his 15th NBA season, Thaddeus Young is reaching the end of his career, but still has plenty left to give a playoff contending team in this league.

In 68 games last season with the Bulls, Thaddeus Young had a terrific all-around season, averaging 12.1 points, 6.2 rebounds, 4.3 assists, 1.1 steals and shooting 55.9% from the floor in about 24.3 minutes per game.

LATEST NBA NEWS & TRADE RUMORS: Predictions For NBA Trade Rumors: Reddish, Fox, Grant, Simmons

In 23 games this season with the Spurs, Thaddeus Young’s role has been very minimal and he is only averaging 14.0 minutes per game, resulting in him averaging single-digit scoring numbers for the first-time since the 2007-08 season, Young’s rookie season in the league.

Being able to facilitate and make plays for others as a 6’8” power-forward, there is certainly some value that a team can salvage from Thaddeus Young.

Maybe he is not a starter anymore and maybe he is nothing more than a role player that plays based on matchups off-the-bench, but he is an experienced frontcourt player that has proven to be effective in the low-post through the years.

While he is expected to be traded at the trade deadline this season by the Spurs, it is hard to pinpoint where exactly Thaddeus Young will end up. The Suns could still be interested in adding him for depth at power-forward behind Jae Crowder, but they did just sign Bismack Biyombo in their frontcourt for the rest of the season.

As for other teams who could be interested in Thaddeus Young, the Celtics, 76ers, Wizards, Knicks, Mavericks and Timberwolves are teams who could look to add some more frontcourt help.
