Would this trade make sense for the Minnesota Timberwolves?
The Minnesota Timberwolves would be getting a nice power forward to pair next to Karl-Anthony Towns in this trade. Not only can John Collins space the floor, but he also gives the T-Wolves an athletic lob threat to play with. All that at only the age of 24 years old.
Chris Finch would have to get creative with the starting lineup, though, especially with the number of forwards he’d have on the roster. In all likelihood, this is the starting lineup he’d go with – Patrick Beverley, Anthony Edwards, Jarred Vanderbilt, John Collins, and Karl-Anthony Towns.
This would really be committing to being great on the defensive end of the floor. But at the same time, they’d still have a solid amount of shooting in that lineup, too. Having Vanderbilt at the three may be weird, but with how versatile Collins is, they could probably get away with it.
Losing D’Angelo Russell would be tough, as his shot-making ability is huge for the Wolves, especially in the clutch. Plus, his close relationship with Towns could come into play here. Towns might be upset if they decided to throw him in a trade.

All that being said, this trade could seriously help the Wolves improve on defense. Even Delon Wright could help with that, as he’s a solid two-way combo guard. Out of all the trades out there, though, this one is, admittedly, a bit odd.
