Does this trade make sense for the Washington Wizards?
Going out and adding Domantas Sabonis is something that could absolutely make the Washington Wizards a better team, but they need to be looking at the big picture here.
Sabonis is a very talented player, but adding him to this team with Bradley Beal at the expense of key role talents really does not make the Wizards that much better of a team in the Eastern Conference. Their ceiling right now is being the 6-seed in the Eastern Conference and with Domantas Sabonis, they really do not improve this outlook too much.
They would lose critical depth they currently have on the perimeter, they would be tied down to paying Sabonis through the 2023-24 season and he really is not the type of All-Star that can come in and change a franchise.
While he could be a perfect complimentary option in pick-and-roll sets next to Bradley Beal, it is very hard to imagine that this trade would push the Wizards into the same range as contending teams like the Nets, Bucks, Heat and Bulls.

Even with Sabonis, Washington would still be a key piece away from being a true championship threat, which is why this may not be the best move they can make ahead of the NBA trade deadline.
The match makes sense and his fit in the frontcourt could work wonders for Bradley Beal’s future as well, but Domantas Sabonis is not going to drastically change the fate of the Wizards right away.
