Dallas Mavericks Get Luka More Help

Dallas Mavericks Receive: F Jerami Grant, G Cory Joseph
Detroit Pistons Receive: G Tim Hardaway Jr., G Josh Green, DAL 2022 2nd Round Pick, DAL 2025 1st Round Pick (Top-5 Protected)

The Dallas Mavericks really need to try and find a way to get their offense going because finding reliable scorers outside of Luka Doncic is going to be their downfall. Kristaps Porzingis can only do so much when he is actually on the floor and Tim Hardaway Jr. has not lived up to the expectations of someone making $21.3M this season.

Currently ranking 5th in defensive rating, the Mavericks have shown some great improvements defensively under head coach Jason Kidd, but their offense is going to result in them losing in the first-round of the playoffs again.

While staying the same, if not getting better defensively, the Dallas Mavericks could better themselves offensively by forming a “Big 3” with Luka Doncic, Kristaps Porzingis and Jerami Grant.

From the Pistons’ perspective, Tim Hardaway Jr.’s contract is not too favorable, but he is someone that could be a reliable leader for this young team. Since joining the Dallas Mavericks during the 2018-19 season, Hardaway Jr. has averaged 15.8 points, 3.4 rebounds and has shot 37.7% from three-point range.

Cade Cunningham and Saddiq Bey could continue turning into the main offensive weapons for this team, while still having Hardaway Jr. as a veteran to lean on down the stretch-run of games.

As for Josh Green, he is starting to come into his own this season with the Mavericks and has shown flashes of his full-potential. The former 18th overall pick from last year’s draft does not offer much promise in Dallas, but the Pistons would surely find use for him in their rotations given that Josh Jackson and Cory Joseph are not long-term solutions in the backcourt and out on the perimeter.

Detroit can add an experience leader in Tim Hardaway Jr., continue growing their young core with Josh Green and add some draft compensation as well in a 2022 second-round pick and a 2025 first-round pick.

Maybe they can find a better deal somewhere else for Grant, but this deal with the Dallas Mavericks is certainly a favorable one for the Detroit Pistons.
