Could Gary Harris’ Contract Be Used To Salary Match?
Gary Harris is another veteran player on the Orlando Magic’s roster to keep tabs on leading up to February’s trade deadline. Coming over in the trade that sent Aaron Gordon to Denver last season, Gary Harris has played well since returning to the floor from a hip injury.
He may not be the same impact defender he was earlier in his career, but Harris is still only 27-years-old and has made an impact in his limited time with the Magic. In 54 total games with Orlando dating back to last season, Gary Harris has averaged 11.1 points, 2.1 rebounds and has shot 36.9% from three-point range.
Given that he is making $20.4M in the final year of his contract this season, many teams in the league have shied away from him as a potential trade deadline target, but Gary Harris still holds a little bit of value.
Not many teams in the league though have the ability to absorb a $20M contract midseason, which is why Gary Harris will likely only be moved in the event that the Magic find themselves needing to match a salary in a big trade with teams like the Lakers and/or 76ers who could look to trade Russell Westbrook and Ben Simmons, respectively.

Three other names to keep watch on in Orlando leading up to the NBA trade deadline are Robin Lopez, E’Twaun Moore and Mo Bamba. Both Lopez and Moore are veteran players on small, one-year contracts that could be absorbed by many teams across the league using trade exceptions, but Bamba is in a very interesting scenario.
