Does this trade make sense for the Boston Celtics?
At the end of the day, the Celtics are not going to be trading Jayson Tatum or Jaylen Brown for anyone. The only player in the league that Boston could think about trading Brown for at this point is Damian Lillard and it is a long-shot to not only believe that he will become available in trade talks out of Portland, but that the Celtics will be willing to trade Brown still.
Recently, Shams Charania of The Athletic wrote that the Boston Celtics have indicated their desire to build around both Tatum and Brown for the foreseeable future, stating that the team has “no interest to split up the All-Stars” right now.
In terms of the dynamics of this trade and what it entails for the Celtics, there is certainly value to be had.
Terence Davis provides much-needed bench depth for this roster, De’Aaron Fox is an All-Star in the making at the point guard position and the draft compensation Boston would receive from Philadelphia allows them to continue building a sustainable core around Tatum and Fox.

Not to mention, the Celtics would still have Marcus Smart, Josh Richardson, Dennis Schroder, Al Horford and Robert Williams to round out the rest of their rotation. In terms of a hypothetical deal for this team, Boston really does not make out too bad, but they will not be trading Jaylen Brown this season unless something drastic happens behind closed doors between him and management.
