For years, the Phoenix Suns were just a small team out in the middle of the desert in Arizona trying to find their identity and build themselves into a competitive team like others in the Western Conference. Now, they find themselves at the top of the food chain in the NBA, finding teams trying to build a roster to resemble that of their own!

After going 51-21 last season and making it all the way to the NBA Finals, the Phoenix Suns have not skipped a beat this season and currently have the best record in the NBA at 30-8. The job head coach Monty Williams and future Hall-of-Fame point guard Chris Paul have done with this team is quite remarkable, but this team does not care about their success right now.

All the Suns care about is getting back to the NBA Finals and finishing the job, something they failed to do against Giannis and the Bucks a season ago.

With Chris Paul, Devin Booker, Deandre Ayton and a plethora of contributing factors on their roster this season, the Suns have a very strong chance to make it back to the NBA Finals, but this does not mean that Suns’ general manager James Jones will not look to make upgrades where he sees fit.

LATEST NBA NEWS & TRADE RUMORS: Rockets ‘Open’ To Make Trade Involving Christian Wood

Phoenix does not have many flaws on their roster, but outside of Deandre Ayton in their frontcourt, they could be deemed slightly weak. JaVale McGee has been great in his back-up role, but at the power-forward positions, there are some questions about if Jae Crowder can help this team win a championship without being a low-post threat.

The Bucks found a lot of success in the NBA Finals last season with both Giannis Antetokounmpo and Bobby Portis on the floor together in a two-big lineup, something the Suns could not guard.

In addition, Ayton was really the only paint/low-post scorer the Suns had in their frontcourt. Adding another big man, especially one who can slide into the power-forward spot on this roster, could be key for the Phoenix Suns, which is why they could take a long look at someone like Christian Wood ahead of the trade deadline this season.

Wood signed a three-year, $41M deal ahead of last season with the Houston Rockets and he has since outperformed the value on this deal. The 26-year-old big man’s talent is definitely being held back in Houston with the Rockets rebuilding, but they may be open to moving him for the right price.

The Rockets have not come out and said that they will look to trade Christian Wood ahead of the trade deadline this season, but the team is “open” to hearing offers for him. Could Houston actually trade Wood this season and could the Suns be the team that ends up with him?
