Does this trade make sense for the Atlanta Hawks?
The Atlanta Hawks are looking to work their way back into the playoff mix in the Eastern Conference and while trading Cam Reddish could absolutely help them do so, getting Obi Toppin in return does not.
What good does this trade really do for the Hawks other than giving them a young talent that could potentially help them down the line?
The only way this team trades Cam Reddish is if they can get a return that helps them win right now and acquiring Obi Toppin really does not help this team’s chances of making the playoffs in any way.
Maybe they could flip him for someone else, but the Hawks are not going to assume this responsibility. If a team wants Cam Reddish, they are going to have to come with their best trade package possible right now and that is simply not the case here with the New York Knicks.

This is not to say that Reddish cannot and will not end up on the Knicks this season because it is definitely a possibility, but a third or fourth team would almost definitely have to get involved in order to get Atlanta the right value they want.
Getting an immediate first-round pick for Reddish is nice, but Obi Toppin is not the kind of player the Hawks are wanting to get in return in this kind of trade.
