Does this trade make sense for the Philadelphia 76ers?
Trading Ben Simmons ahead of the NBA trade deadline is something the Philadelphia 76ers need to do if they are to have a chance at competing in the Eastern Conference this season. Joel Embiid and Tobias Harris can only do so much for this team, which is why a trade needs to be made.
Seth Curry, Tyrese Maxey and others on this team have stepped up in big moments, but they are unable to do this over the course of a full 82-game season and the playoffs are different than the regular season.
This team cannot win a championship with the roster they currently have, but they are not far off from being the best they can be. All it takes is for them to move Simmons for an All-Star-like player and all of a sudden the 76ers are right back at the top of the Eastern Conference standings.
CJ McCollum is now in his 9th NBA season and while he has never been an All-Star, he is as close to one as the Philadelphia 76ers will probably get.

For his career, McCollum has averaged 19.0 points, 3.3 assists and has shot 45.3% from the floor, 39.7% from distance.
Not only can he be the third high-level scorer this team is missing right now, but this trade also gives the 76ers even more depth than they already have. Both Anfernee Simons and Nassir Little are not only young talents that can help them in the future, but they can help this team in the postseason right away.
Simons really is a big acquisition for the 76ers in this trade because he really does have the potential to be a star for a team in the backcourt. His confidence is through the roof and being as athletic/agile as he is, there are very few players in this league who can keep up with Simons once he gets going on the offensive-end of the floor.

Philadelphia would be getting so much value for Simmons in this trade that there is just no way that they could say no to it. Getting another player who has been an All-Star would be great, but CJ McCollum is better than some guys who have been All-Stars in this league before, Anfernee Simons is only 22-years-old and already a difference-maker in the second-unit, and the Sixers would be getting a first-round draft pick sometime over the next four years in this deal.
There is no part of this trade that does not make sense for the 76ers, which is why they would be foolish to turn this proposal down if it comes their way.
