Does this trade make sense for the Phoenix Suns?

Acquiring Robert Covington in this trade would cost the Phoenix Suns $4.4M extra, but they are $8.2M under the tax line for this season and have some room to add another impactful player should they choose to do so.

His numbers and production being down this season is definitely concerning, but Robert Covington is a great defensive player and would fit in perfectly with the Suns as a “sixth-man” type of talent because of his ability to be a “3-and-D” player that moves around at many different positions.

For his career, Covington has shot 35.7% from three-point range and with his length, instincts and athleticism, he would make one of the best defensive teams in the league even better.

Dario Saric really brings no value to this Suns team anymore and even if he was healthy, he would not be seeing much time on the floor because of the fact that JaVale McGee has played so well.

Last season, Saric was instrumental off-the-bench for the Phoenix Suns and they could not have reached the NBA Finals without his production, but they can definitely do so again without him because of the new faces that they have and their contributions to this team.

Getting out of Dario Saric’s contract now makes the most sense for this team, especially if they can get a “one-year-rental” type of player in Robert Covington.
