There were a lot of people that felt the run that the Phoenix Suns made to the NBA Finals was a bit of a fluke. They had a lot of luck when it came to injuries on opposing teams, as every team they played against was missing at least one key rotation player.

Well, they have proven those doubters wrong. After a 1-3 start to the 2021-22 season, the Suns have looked like one of the best teams in the NBA. Only the Golden State Warriors have a better record than the Suns’ 26-7 mark.

Phoenix is excellent on both ends of the court as they have the third-best point differential in the NBA, behind the Warriors and Utah Jazz. While things are going well now, the Suns are not going to be complacent. They are going to be active at the trade deadline, looking to add pieces to help them get over the hump.

If they are going to make a move, it very well could be to add a frontcourt player. Phoenix’s rotation suffered a blow in Game 1 of the NBA Finals against the Milwaukee Bucks when Dario Saric injured his knee.

They could use him as a trade chip to build a package around to help upgrade the roster. One player to keep an eye on is Robert Covington of the Portland Trail Blazers.

The Portland Trail Blazers are having struggles of their own and could look to get any value they can from Covington, who is playing on an expiring contract. He is an excellent defender, capable of defending every position on the court.

The quintessential 3-and-D player, Covington is someone many contending teams will covet with the trade deadline getting closer. His ability to play both frontcourt spots, as Covington has experience playing center, makes him an excellent target for the Suns.

Robert Covington is versatile enough to play alongside any of the other big men or wing players on the roster, making him a good fit for a Phoenix Suns team looking to make another deep run in the postseason.
