Detroit Pistons Receive: G Kemba Walker, F Obi Toppin, F Kevin Knox, 2022 First-Round Pick (Top-5 Protected)
New York Knicks Receive: F Jerami Grant

This hypothetical trade was cooked up by Zach Buckley of Bleacher Report. He put together some trade packages for teams that are most likely going to be on the outside looking in of the postseason and want to finish with as high of a draft pick as possible.

One of those teams is the Detroit Pistons, who could change the landscape of the NBA postseason by dealing Jerami Grant. Grant has shown he can fill numerous roles and do them all well.

Looking to shake things up themselves and regain their form from last season, the New York Knicks take a shot on acquiring him. In this hypothetical deal, New York sends Kemba Walker, Obi Toppin, Kevin Knox II and a 2022 first-round pick to Detroit for him.

New York lands a two-way player in Grant they are desperate for as he helps take pressure off of the rest of the roster. The package, however, is steep to acquire him.

Walker has seen a resurgence since being removed from the rotation for nearly three weeks. Toppin is having a breakout season despite limited minutes and Knox showed that he is staying ready when he was called upon when COVID ravaged the Knicks’ roster.

The cherry on top is the top-five protected first-round pick. Rebuilding teams love first-rounders and there is a chance that the pick lands inside the lottery, as the Knicks are currently on the outside looking in of a playoff spot, making it even more valuable.

How do both teams feel about this deal? Let’s take a look at it from each of their perspectives, starting with the Detroit Pistons.
