The Detroit Pistons came into the 2021-22NBA season with some expectations of playing competitive basketball. They had a young core oozing with potential that had Cade Cunningham, the No. 1 overall pick in the 2021 NBA Draft, added to it this offseason.

The future is certainly bright in Detroit and there was hope some of that would shine through this season.

Fast forward to the present day, and things have not gone as well as they had hoped. The Pistons have the worst record in the NBA at 5-27 and look destined for another top-5 pick in the 2022 NBA Draft.

They, along with the Orlando Magic, are the only teams in the NBA more than 4.5 games out of a spot in the NBA Play-In Tournament.

While it wasn’t their intention to tank and lose this frequently, the Pistons are one of a handful of teams who are certain sellers as we head toward the trade deadline.

Detroit is multiple seasons away from making any noise in the Eastern Conference, which raises the question; what do they do with Jerami Grant? Grant is currently sidelined as he recovers from thumb surgery and will be re-evaluated in early February, right before the deadline.

Given the current state of the team, signing Grant to an extension this upcoming summer or as a free agent in 2023 doesn’t seem prudent for a team that isn’t ready to contend.

As a result, they could look to cash in on his value and trade him in the coming weeks.

There are a ton of teams interested in acquiring him, according to Shams Charania. Could one of them be the New York Knicks? Let’s take a look at this hypothetical deal that would land Jerami Grant in the Big Apple.
