Dallas Mavericks Receive: G Goran Dragic
Toronto Raptors Receive: C Dwight Powell, F Dorian Finney-Smith, DAL 2024 2nd Round Pick (Protected 31-55)

While Dallas is the team that wants Dragic, they are also the team that is in the driver’s seat in this deal because Toronto has everything to lose. If they cannot trade the veteran guard, his contract will expire and they will be left with one less asset from losing Kyle Lowry in free agency.

The Toronto Raptors do not want this to happen and they should be more than willing to accept at least a second-round pick for Goran Dragic. In this deal, they would not only be getting a heavily protected second-round pick in 2024, but they would be getting Dwight Powell and Dorian Finney-Smith.

Whether or not both players remain in Toronto or go to a third team is unknown, but Finney-Smith is a very intriguing player for the Raptors to potentially keep. He is only owed $4M this season and being in the final year of his contract, Dorian Finney-Smith is expected to have quite a few suitors in free agency next offseason.

On the year, the versatile forward is averaging 10.2 points, 4.7 rebounds, 1.9 steals and is shooting 44.3% from the floor, 36.7% from three-point range. The epitome of a “3-and-D” wing in the NBA, Finney-Smith can do just about everything to help his team and he really does thrive coming off the bench in the second unit.

LATEST NBA NEWS & TRADE RUMORS: Raptors’ Goran Dragic Would Prefer Landing With Mavericks

OG Anunoby has been hurt most of the year with a hip injury and has only played in 15 games as a result, so going out and bringing in another dynamic forward that can fill many different needs for this Toronto Raptors team may ultimately pay off for them.

Maybe they would not keep him around past this season since he is set to see contract offers upwards of $12M per year in the offseason, but Dorian Finney-Smith could definitely be an intriguing player for Toronto to want to acquire.

However, Dallas definitely would not want to give him up because of all the hats he wears for them. Losing Finney-Smith would hurt the Mavs’ approach on defense, as well as limit their depth on the wing.

Reggie Bullock and Sterling Brown would ultimately see their roles increasing should Finney-Smith get traded, but once again, the Dallas Mavericks would be dictating this trade and quite honestly, they may not even want to trade for Dragic and instead try to sign him after he is bought out.

A lot can happen between now and the trade deadline and who knows, maybe the Mavericks will actually get a chance to sign Goran Dragic to a minimum contract instead of having to give up Dwight Powell and Dorian Finney-Smith to acquire him from Toronto.
