This Blazers-Pistons Trade Pairs Jerami Grant With Lillard, McCollum

Jerami Grant, Portland Trail Blazers, NBA Trade Rumors

Now falling to 13-19 on the season, the Portland Trail Blazers’ lack of success continues to be one of the main reasons that they find themselves in NBA headlines. Moving on from long-time head coach Terry Stotts in the offseason was supposed to change things in Portland, yet this team continues to underachieve.

For years now, the story with the Trail Blazers has been that they simply do not have enough talent on their roster to compete for a championship and while they did make the Western Conference Finals in 2019, they got swept by the Golden State Warriors and stood no chance of going to the NBA Finals.

They have made the playoffs for eight straight seasons now, the longest active streak in the league, but Portland has advanced past the first round just three different times, making the Western Conference Finals just once in 2019.

Sooner or later, a big move is going to be made by the Blazers and while they could look to hit the “reset button” in order to rebuild, it is much more likely that they will be looking to add talent ahead of the trade deadline and be aggressive with interim GM Joe Cronin.

With no cap space and virtually no draft assets that they can leverage right away, who could the Blazers possibly target that could help them make another playoff push and this time be relevant come the end of the season?

Ben Simmons and Myles Turner are two key names that come to mind that could help this team defensively and appease Damian Lillard, but what about Detroit’s Jerami Grant? The 27-year-old forward is now in his 8th NBA season and after signing with the Detroit Pistons last season, he had a breakout year.

Grant averaged career-highs in points (22.3), assists (2.8), field goals made (7.4), and field goal attempts (17.3), while also shooting 35% from deep on a career-high 2.1 made threes per game. Still being one of the more versatile and better two-way forwards in the league, Grant is definitely a hot name on the trade block right now.

The Detroit Pistons may not want to trade Jerami Grant given his value to them as they rebuild, but Shams Charania of The Athletic reported recently that the team is going to be “open to a possible deal” involving their star.

Could Jerami Grant be the missing piece in Portland for the Trail Blazers to finally turn things around and become a real threat in the Western Conference, especially given Damian Lillard’s struggles this season? Let’s take a look at what this trade could look like and if it is feasible to believe that it could happen.
