This Pistons-Suns Trade Lands Jerami Grant In Phoenix

The Detroit Pistons and Phoenix Suns are two NBA teams who are in polar opposite situations as the February deadline approaches. One team is in the early stages of a long-term rebuild while the other is coming off an NBA Finals loss and is hoping to win it all this time around.

Coming off an impressive breakout campaign with the Pistons, there has been much attention placed on Jerami Grant as a possible trade candidate. He is averaging 20.1 points, 4.8 rebounds, and 2.6 assists on less than stellar efficiency and is sidelined for the next while due to a thumb injury.

It was recently reported by longtime NBA insider Marc Stein that Jerami Grant is among the two players ‘most likely’ soon to be traded—adding to speculation about a potential deal.

With Detroit on a 13-game losing streak and quickly slumping to a 12-70 pace, Jerami Grant is increasingly regarded by rival teams as one of the NBA’s most likely players to be traded before the Feb. 10 trade deadline.

There doesn’t appear to be much reasoning for the Pistons to hold onto Grant long-term since he isn’t the cleanest of fits with Cade Cunningham’s timeline given he will be 28-years-old in mid-March. Detroit, who has a 5-25 record, is primed for a great pick in the 2022 NBA Draft regardless of whether Grant is moved or not, but still, adding more assets would help.

A title contender looking to add another key starter would almost certainly be the type of trade suitor looking to make a deal for Grant before the deadline. There are a few that stand out in the Western Conference as options—including the Suns, Los Angeles Lakers, Utah Jazz, and perhaps Portland Trail Blazers.

Let’s take a look at an NBA trade scenario featuring Jerami Grant that involves the Detroit Pistons and Phoenix Suns.
