Ever since the Chicago Bulls won the NBA Finals in 1998 with Michael Jordan, Scottie Pippen and the rest of the “Last Dance” team, this franchise has been rebuilding. They came close to having a real championship contender with Derrick Rose and Jimmy Butler, but Chicago has only advanced past the first-round of the playoffs four times since 1998 and they have made the Eastern Conference Finals just once.

Over the last four seasons, the Bulls have gone 102-199 (33.9%) and they have not made the playoffs since 2017. However, things are finally starting to change for the better for this organization, as the Bulls are currently 19-10 and near the top of the Eastern Conference standings.

It has taken a while, but the Bulls finally look like a championship contending team again and that is because of the “Big 3” they have suddenly formed. Zach LaVine joined the Bulls in 2017 and has turned himself into one of the best offensive players in the league, but the problem in Chicago for the last few seasons was that they did not have any high-level talents around him.

As a result, Chicago went out and acquired All-Star center Nikola Vucevic at the trade deadline last season and had a field day bringing in talented players this past offseason. Not only did Chicago execute a sign-and-trade to bring in DeMar DeRozan from the Spurs, but they also acquired Lonzo Ball, Alex Caruso and Derrick Jones Jr., giving this team depth and a really dangerous looking roster on both ends of the floor.

IIt is not surprising to see the Chicago Bulls be as good as they have been this season, but the one thing that could hold them back is injuries. Patrick Williams is currently out indefinitely, possibly for the season, after having wrist surgery and while they do have depth, they do not have a lot of consistency on their bench.

Chicago ranks 29th in the league in bench points per game and while they could definitely look to improve the talent in their second-unit ahead of the trade deadline, going out and making a “home run” type of trade.

The Bulls need more talent on the wing in-place of Williams and should also be looking for someone who can be a factor on defense as well. Jerami Grant is the best wing rumored to be available right now and Chicago would definitely benefit from pursuing him.

Detroit signed Jerami Grant ahead of last season to a three-year, $60M deal and this has suddenly turned into one of the most valuable contracts in the league. Grant had a breakout season with the Detroit Pistons last year and while he is currently out with a thumb injury that will keep him out until near the end of January, the Pistons forward is still the best trade target for teams across the league.
